Fast, clean and reliable to the new bathroom
PreFab stands for "Prefabricated", also for industrial prefabrication, and for time savings, cost control and quality improvement. This "prefabrication" has long been the standard in the automotive industry and, driven by skills shortages, digital technologies and increasingly sustainability-oriented building regulations, it is also becoming increasingly popular in the construction sector. This is because the higher degree of prefabrication saves resources and significantly accelerates the construction process.
This trend is particularly noticeable in bathroom and wet room projects. Thanks also to wedi, because we are leading the way in innovative preFab solutions: we are prefabricating more and more components in the factory and delivering them tailor-made to the construction site. This eliminates many installation steps and provides greater reliability in the system.

Sustainability and efficiency through PreFab
- Conserve resources and avoid waste. Precise prefabrication minimises material waste and saves resources on site. PreFab will thus become an efficient way to implement sustainable construction projects.
- Shorter construction times and "clean" construction sites. Prefabricated solutions from wedi enable fast and clean installation on site. Precise planning, exact delivery: this means that everything on the construction site is quickly done – without much dust or waste. The energy consumption on site also decreases.
- Track sustainability goals and comply with requirements. This includes, for example, Environmental Product Declarations. EPDs are available for wedi building boards and wedi Fundo shower elements. In addition, many of our products have been tested and listed in their database by the Sentinel Holding Institute (SHI) – as pioneers of XPS construction elements. The SHI Product Pass of the Sentinel Holding Institute (SHI) has become a "compass" for sustainable construction projects. This is because the digital platform summarises information and certifications for individual products.

wedi for PreFab and Modular Construction
Two terms, one goal: building more efficiently and sustainably. The difference between the two methods lies in the degree of prefabrication – an important factor for architects, planners and construction companies alike, because it also detemines the assembly requirements on site.
- PreFab involves prefabricating individual components. The wedi Fundo shower element, for example, is already sealed at the factory and has a pre-defined even gradient. Whilst Classic Fundo Systems have only the drain inlet integrated, the Complete Fundo Systems have the entire drain technology integrated within the shower element. The wedi Sanwell shower wall module comes with pre-installedcold and hot water pipes. The Hansgrohe iBox, for more than 200 flush-mounted fittings, is also integrated durnig manufacturing. This saves time on site and increases reliability.
- Modular construction goes one step further: complete room modules are prefabricated and delivered to the construction site. The comissioned companies can then easily position them on site. This will have more time-saving and efficiency advantages on the construction site. Potential sources of error are eliminated supporting longevity.
At wedi, the focus is on solutions that can be used in both PreFab and Modular construction projects. The clear advantage of such solutions is that wedi also provides the corresponding sealing concept. As a result, wedi has become a reliable partner in this sector.
wedi and the ARDEX Group: together for PreFab
Driving the Prefab Industry with efficient products and solutions, the ARDEX Group is a pioneer for Prefab Modular Offsite. It develops solutions that are specifically tailored to the needs and manufacturing processes of the PreFab industry.
As part of the group, wedi contributes to this. The high-quality products were originally developed for the traditional craft sector. This has resulted in waterproof and modular systems – ideal for the requirements of industrial prefabrication. The high-quality solutions can be seamlessly integrated into industrial production processes.

Who are wedi PreFab solutions tailored to?
- Prefabricated house builders and construction companies benefit from the individually customisable wedi products. These can be composed of standard components and custom-made products. wedi offers efficient solutions especially for walls and floors in bathrooms.
- Project developers and developers of residential homes and hotels rely on the flexibility of wedi systems for fast and precise installation on site. Thanks to the prefabrication, wet rooms are installed faster and the process saves more resources: a clear plus with tight schedules, whether it be new construction, refurbishment or renovation.
- Architects and planners can already exchange ideas with wedi during the planning process. The result is efficient wet room solutions that are tailor-made to the respective project. From integrated TGA planning to fine-tuning individual components, wedi offers competence and flexibility for demanding projects.

Products and systems the wedi PreFab segment
Offer a "made-to-measure" degree of prefabrication: with this guiding principle, wedi develops practical solutions. Some examples:
- wedi Fundo shower elements. It is already sealed at the factory and has a specified slope. Whilst Classic Fundo Systems have only the drain inlet integrated, the Complete Fundo Systems have the entire drain technology integrated within the shower element.
- wedi Sanwell shower wall module. The special features are the pre-installed cold and hot water pipes as well as the Hansgrohe iBox that allows for more than 200 thermostatic mixer designs.
- Heating systems, sanitary installations or lighting and sound technology. Thanks to modern milling techniques, we can take such technical components into account right from the start - they can be integrated into the design in detail.
- Floor structures for wet rooms. Example of wooden module construction: wedi offers customer-specific solutions for the shower floor or the entire bathroom floor. Whether it is a low construction height, sound insulation requirements, factory-prepared milling for hot water heating systems, the possibilities are manifold.
