Up to 180 cm: freestanding structural lightness by wedi
Freestanding partition walls are becoming increasingly important as structuring elements in wet rooms. Space-saving and lightweight solutions that enable room layouts without ceiling support are especially in demand. wedi developed solutions that enable the construction of exactly such partitions – for up to 180 cm in length. This opens up new possibilities for modern bathroom design and significantly speeds up the installation time.
Modern bathrooms are defined by clearly separated zones: shower, toilet, and wash area. These zones give the room structure and ensure an optimal user experience. However, traditional masonry consumes space, requires long drying times, and is labour-intensive. What’s needed are smart solutions that combine functionality and aesthetics – such as slim, freestanding partitions made from lightweight materials that don’t require to be fixed to the ceiling.
The new dream dimensions: 180 – 8 – 260
wedi wall elements combine function and form in perfect harmony. Just two building boards with a thickness of only 8 cm are enough to construct a freestanding wall up to 180 cm long, up to 260 cm high, with remarkable structural stability. The boards are simply bonded using wedi 610 adhesive sealant and can then be tiled directly.
“Our lightweight partitions strike the perfect balance between design freedom and technical reliability,” says Markus Wittlerbäumer, Head of Application Technology at wedi. “We guarantee stability up to a width of 1.80 m – without any additional reinforcement or ceiling support.” Longer partitions are also possible, but require additional reinforcing.
Effortless installation
wedi building boards can be cut to size if needed, bonded easily, and tiled directly. They can be installed on almost any substrate. The large-format XL and XXL boards are up to 1.20 m wide, meaning fewer joints during installation. At the same time, they are true “lightweights”: while traditional masonry can weigh up to 370 kg and requires several days to dry, a freestanding wedi wall can be installed in around an hour – with a total weight of just 30 kg.
“We rely on tested combinations within our sealing system,” adds Wittlerbäumer. “This not only ensures safety but also provides planning flexibility – especially in complex bathrooms or in challenging renovation projects.”
With integrated technology
For even more convenience, wall solutions with integrated technology are also available: the Sanwell wall element for example already includes a pre-installed niche – ideal as a shower partition. There are also Sanwell shower wall modules with factory-integrated cold and hot water pipes.
