Fundo Solido: New wedi system solution for accessible PVC finished bathrooms
In healthcare and assisted-living environments, where people are treated, recovering or staying active, bathrooms must perform reliably — right down to what lies beneath the surface. The new Fundo Solido is designed to do exactly that. Installed beneath a PVC finish, this 100% waterproof shower floor system for accessible bathrooms protects the subfloor even if the PVC covering is damaged. At the same time, it is engineered to withstand high point loads. Adaptable to a wide range of installation requirements, Fundo Solido is ready for covering within just 48 hours, supporting rapid construction progress and efficient refurbishment projects — even during ongoing operations.
Fundo Solido expands the portfolio with a solution specifically developed for PVC floor coverings. In environments where large numbers of people come together, PVC is the standard material – including in accessible showers. As a result, the requirements for hygiene, compressive strength and safety are particularly high. “Especially in care and clinical buildings, waterproof protection cannot stop at the floor covering. Fundo Solido takes the wedi wet room concept one step further – delivering greater safety and more flexibility for everyone,” says Vanessa Beer, Product Manager at wedi.
Fundo Solido reliably protects the entire substrate against moisture – even if the PVC surface becomes damaged. This significantly reduces the risk of mould and concealed moisture damage. For operators, this translates into high operational reliability and reduced downtime, thanks to clearly limited renovation areas. Repairs can be confined to the affected room and carried out quickly – a decisive advantage when facilities must remain operational.
When time is a critical factor
Fundo Solido is installed beneath the PVC covering and takes over the sealing function. An additional surface waterproofing layer is not required. The dry installation method and integrated slope eliminate the need for complex screed work and long drying times. As a result, the system is ready for PVC installation within 48 hours. Optional extension boards allow the entire room to be reliably secured – ideal for accessible solutions or refurbishments in existing buildings. “Every day counts on site. Being ready for the PVC covering after two days with Fundo Solido makes a real difference, especially during refurbishment in ongoing operations,” explains Beer. Against the backdrop of skilled labour shortages, demand increases for solutions that make processes on site faster, safer and more efficient.
The shower element and extension boards consist entirely of recycled, pressureresistant PET foam and are designed for high point loads, such as wheelchairs, shower chairs or patient lifts. At the same time, the system is easy to work with: cuts can be made using standard or electric saws, and dust generation is minimal. Drainage options include horizontal or vertical DN50 point drains, optionally with a fire protection collar. A 360° rotatable drain connection, a cutting template and a clamping ring for secure PVC connection ensure reliable detailing.
More flexibility for everyone
While installers benefit from fast and clean installation, planners receive a tested, standards-compliant solution with high planning reliability. Operators gain longterm operational safety and an extended service life of wet rooms. “Fundo Solido is not a single component but a thoughtfully designed system. It reduces risks, simplifies processes and ensures that bathrooms in clinics and care facilities function reliably in the long term – both technically and economically,” says Vanessa Beer.
