Small spaces often demand the highest degree of planning intelligence, especially when it comes to shower back wall designs. Here, the overall performance of the installation is strongly influenced by workmanship and construction accuracy. To reduce risk and ensure consistent results in shower design, wedi has developed a new shower wall module: the wedi Sanwell XS shower wall module combines a small footprint with integrated technology, ensuring reliable installation while enabling modern design in highly constrained conditions.
Whether in private bathrooms, hotels, holiday apartments, or commercial spaces, secure sealing and installation-friendly solutions are essential for long-term waterproof performance. “Compact wet rooms can be particularly challenging. With the Sanwell XS shower wall module, we offer a lightweight, reliable, and adaptable system,” says Christian Holtgräve, Product Manager at wedi.
Integrated Technology
The wedi Sanwell XS shower wall module is only 300 mm wide and 50 mm thick, yet it already contains all components necessary for a shower back wall installation with surface-mounted fittings. Delivered 100% waterproof, it includes factory-integrated cold and hot water pipes and a reinforcement plate for securely fixing the shower rail on site. In addition, the new module can be combined with wedi building boards of the same thickness – available in widths of 600, 900, or 1200 mm. This makes it easy to create common shower enclosures from 900 to 1500 mm2 without extensive on-site preparation and custom detailing.
“The shower wall module combines several work steps, that are normally completed by different trades, in one product,” Holtgräve explains. “Therefore, there is no need for separate piping, which eliminates the complexity of traditional constructions. This makes the installation particularly fast, with minimal noise and dirt involved.” Thanks to its lightweight design, the system can be installed just by a single person.

Like all wedi building boards, the Sanwell XS shower wall module also features a blue core made of extruded polystyrene rigid foam, free of HFCs. Its cement-based surface provides the ideal foundation for tiles or design finishes. “This new product provides a solution that offers planners and installers maximum reliability – regardless of how tight the space is,” Holtgräve continues. “Precisely positioned supply lines and integrated reinforcement reduce potential errors and ensure enduring waterproof performance.”
Perfect Fit
Installation follows the plug-and-play principle: if necessary, the shower wall module can be shortened on both sides before it is attached to the wall and floor. Then, the boards are aligned to the module and all joints are bonded and sealed with wedi 610 adhesive sealant – done. Especially in renovation projects, this enables a simple, clean, and straightforward installation.
The new wall element integrates seamlessly into the existing wedi system portfolio. Designed as a modular system component with versatile application, it can be used as a back wall installation or as part of longer partition walls.
