Flowing forms meet technical precision: organic bathroom design at the highest level
Gently curved walls, showers, and seating areas characterise the modern bathroom. Where clear edges used to dominate, flowing shapes now create a whole new living experience. But organic design should not only look beautiful: it must also maintain its functionality in the long run. As a specialist in bathrooms and wet rooms, wedi has developed safe and well-thought-out system solutions that enable designers and contractors to realise their ideas at the highest level, both aesthetically and technically.
The shower blends seamlessly into the room, while integrated benches and gently curved walls create flowing transitions: more and more builders want bathrooms that combine design and functionality to create a spa-like feeling, bringing more relaxation into everyday life.
However, there are a number of technical challenges to overcome along the way: “It all looks so easy on social media,” says Hanne Stallbörger, Head of Marketing at wedi. But completely sealing rounded showers with smooth transitions is a highly demanding task that requires excessive work: “It requires intelligent systems and good preparation.”
Stallbörger highlights another concern, the shortage of skilled workers: “We know from many conversations how tight the schedules are on construction sites. Staffing levels are simply low. This makes everyone involved even more grateful for any solution that makes the process on site more effective.”
Design freedom and assured protection
In order to account equally for design freedom, enduring functionality, and efficient installation, wedi separates waterproofing and design into two phases. Step one is classic wedi waterproofing, which is also used in “angular” bathrooms. It is 100 percent waterproof, tested, and easy to install.
Once the secure foundation is created, using wedi Construct boards, the creative part commences. Thanks to factory-made longitudinal or transverse cuts, these can be bent precisely to any desired radius. The joints are then sealed with wedi 610 waterproof sealant. The wedi XL and XXL building boards are the ideal addition for larger freestanding structures such as partition walls or room dividers. Walls, niches, or shower partitions can thus be designed exactly according to customer requirements.
“Thanks to the versatility and adaptability of wedi products, even complex bathroom designs can be realised,” summarizes Hanne Stallbörger. Cut, shape, bend to suit the available space and the customers‘ taste. wedi solutions are suitable for bathrooms of all sizes without compromising functionality in favour of design.
In large rooms, for example, gently curved benches can run seamlessly along the walls, whilst in small spaces, an organically shaped washbasin can add a touch of style.
Modern design that saves energy
Added value: wedi building boards have integrated thermal insulation. Depending on the exterior wall, they reduce heat loss by up to 50 percent and improve the response time of heating systems by up to 70 percent. “Over the course of a year, this can result in savings of several hundred euros, and it also increases comfort,” emphasizes Stallbörger. The result: a bathroom design that unites organic beauty with high energy performance.
